All Saints Winter Warm-Up Tournament Report

03.20.13 A whopping fifty players turned out to play in the four-section All Saints Winter Warm-Up Tournament at All Saints School in Bangor on February 23rd. Winners were: Vetri Vel (K-6), Ben Amar (K-8), Nicholas Kawamura, John Jewel and Hui Kennedy (K-12), and Jarod Bryan (Open).

USCF crosstable of this event

Vetri Vel took no prisoners in the sixteen-player K-6 section with a perfect 5.0 points in five games. His closest rivals were Brent Roberts with 4.0 points and a group of players scoring 3.0 points including: Cyrus Grindal, Noah Umel, BBrendan Parlee, William Xu, Cody Ross and Ian Pomroy.

In the K-8 section, shut out his opponents scoring 4.0 points in four games. Amar was trailed by Joseph Powell (3.0) and Ben Penfold (2.5).

A three-way tie ensued in the K-12 section between Nicolas Kawamura, John Jewel and Hui Kennedy. Following the leaders were Stuart McKay (2.5) and three players with 2.0 points: Brendan Penfold, Jonathan Donnelly and Jacob Cote.

USCF master Jarod Bryan won the open section with 4.0 points. Max Berube and Aaron Spencer tied for second-third with 3.0 points.
