Eastern Maine Open Tournament Report

USCF crosstable of this event

Twenty three players competed in the 2012 Eastern Maine Open held at the University of Maine in Orono on Saturday September 29th, 2012. In this next-to-last Maine Chess Player of the Year event, competition was strong among the 2012 leaders with the average rating for the Open section at USCF 1717.

Open Section
Jarod Bryan and Max Berube shared first place with a score of 3.5/4 and both drew against Roger Morin. With those two draws, Morin finished with a tie for third (3.0/4.0) with Arnold Clark whose only defeat was by Jarod Bryan. Max Berube vaulted over the 1800 rating level for the first time to 1836 to become a USCF Class A player.

U1400 Section
George Spahn did not lose a game to take the U1400 Section with a score of 4.0/4.0. Bill Childs, Brian Roderick and Ian Youth tied for second with a score of 2.0/4.0.

U1000 Section
Nicholas Kawamura, Stuart MacKay and Reid Rauch tied for first place with a score of 2.0/4.0.
