Cheverus Quik Chess Tournament
04.25.11 Cheverus High School, located in Portland, hosted a six round, G/10 quick chess tournament held on Saturday, April 2. The event helped raise funds to sponsor the Cheverus High School team trip to the National Scholastic team tournament being held in Nashville, Tennessee on April 29 - May 1. The Cheverus team earned the trip by winning the High School Championship section of the 2011 Maine Scholastic Team Tournament in Orono on March 5.

Eighteen players entered the competition, featuring two games in each round, one as white and one as black.
First place went Matthew Fishbein of Cape Elizabeth with a perfect 12-0 score. Finishing second was Lee Doucette of Portland (8-4), and sharing third place was Jamin Fletcher of Auburn and Brett Parker of Cape Elizabeth (7.5-4.5).
Matthew Fishbein faces his Cape Elizabeth teammate Brett Parker in round 5 action. Matthew won both of these games, and the tournament.
Cheverus High School top board player Ethan Bergeron takes on his coach, Dan La Vallee in round 6. They split their games.
Additional round 5 action matched Jamin Fletcher of Auburn against Dan Fishbein of Cape Elizabeth. They split their match 1-1.
