2010 Scholastic State Championship Dates Announced

11.15.09 The Maine Association of Chess Coaches had its annual fall meeting on October 17, 2009 at the University of Maine in Orono. In addition to other issues discussed, the group decided on the dates for the 2010 scholastic state championships. Included here are detailed meeting notes compiled thanks to Ron Lewis.

The dates of the 2010 State Scholastic Championships are:

Girls Championship February 27, 2010

Teams Championship March 6, 2010

Snow Day March 13, 2010

Individuals Championship and Sidekick Quads March 20, 2010

The group also discussed volunteers for tournament organizers, tournament directors and tournament leaders. These events require lots of volunteer assistance and the goodwill of those who can pitch in to help. If you think you might be able to assist with planning, organizing or directing or might be available to chaperone or supervise scholastic players on the day of the event please contact the overall tournament coordinator Ron Lewis (raltiger@aol.com).

Other issues discussed were: the treasurer's report, continuing tournament annoumcements in Chess Life magazine, USCF definition of what constitutes a school team and large numbers of students from the same school playing in a section making accurate pairings difficult.
