This Week at The George Cunningham Chess Club
12.06.06 The George Cunningham Chess Club meets this Wednesday, December 6, 2006 at the Bumps Room in the University of Maine Orono Memorial Union from 7-11 p. m. Come and drop by for a game (all skill ranges are welcomed!) The University of Maine Chess Club will also have a club tournament (four rounds at 5 minutes time limit each round) featuring the King's Indian (Saemisch variation.)

First prize is $4, second $2, and third $1.
The initial moves are given below (all games start from that position):

2. c4 g6
3. Nc3 Bg7
4. e4 d6
5. f3 O-O
6. Be3 e5
7. d5 Black to move
This is the starting position with Black to move of this week's tournament at the University of Maine Chess Club.
All are welcome and there is no entrance fee. The tournament starts at 8 p. m. in the Bumps Room at the Memorial Union.
Last week, Dana Waltz took first, Mike Chan and Aaron Gilio (Hampden High School) tied for second
in the tournament featuring an isolated pawn.
On Saturday, Ghezai Menelik of the UM club won $50 by taking first in the Open Section at the
Aurora Winter Solstice (see ChessMaine.net for more info). Congratulations!
