Wahington County Chess Federation

09.06.06 We welcome the newly formed Washington County Chess Federation founded by USCF member and chess dad Alba Briggs III. Well organized and grassroots, the WCCF has gotten the word out to schools, libraries and homeschoolers in Washington County and kicks off its inception with an upcoming tournament in Pembroke.

Greetings,

The WCCF is a recently formed organization dedicated to the encouragement and support of chess activity in Washington County. We are an affiliate of the United States Chess Federation, the governing body of chess in the United States. We plan to help establish local chess clubs through a Community Chess Program, school clubs and teams through a Scholastic Chess Program, and sponsor USCF-rated tournaments throughout the County.

We have contacted all of the public schools in the county, as well as all of the libraries, in order to assemble information on current chess activity and to encourage schools and communities to establish clubs and teams. We would also like to involve the homeschool community, and are looking for ways to let individual homeschoolers know what we are doing and encourage their participation.

Our contact information: Washington County Chess Federation, 1138 North Lubec Road, Lubec, ME 04652. E-mail: ahbriggs@rcn.com. Contact person: Alba Briggs, phone: 207-733-2280.

Thank you for your help.

Sincerely, Alba H. Briggs III, President, WCCF
