The Stillwater Montessori School Chess Club in Old Town begins its academic year meetings this Wednesday, October 4th. The Club will meet every Wednesday when school is in session from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Chess players who are in K-8 are especially invited to attend but players of all ages and abilities are welcome.
President Ilyumzhinov has issued a press release stating considerable progress has been made in negotiations including resolution of the bathroom issue. There still remains a number of unresolved issues and discussions continue, hence no game today. Also the FIDE president has accepted the resignations of all members of the Match Appeals Committee and will serve as the Appeals Committee himself until a new committee is formed. Both the Russian and Bulgarian national chess federations have come out in support of their players.
After the first round of negotiations with both teams, the FIDE President answered questions from journalists and provided the chess community with his comments on the status of the match. He stated that both parties are ready to continue the match. However, one of the stumbling blocks is the score: Will it be 3:2 or 3:1?
The Fall Chess Challenge, a K-12 Chess Tournament, will take place on Saturday, October 14th at the Cape Elizabeth Pond Cove School Cafetorium. This is the first in a series of chess tournaments hosted by the Cape Elizabeth Chess Boosters and Cape Elizabeth Community Services. The tournament will be a round robin event with trophies to all participants.
In overnight developments, the FIDE President has accepted the proposal from Cheif Arbiter Geurt Gijssen to postpone today's game and has stated there will be a game tomorrow. He has also written a letter to both players asking them to come together to reach an agreement. We will keep you posted as things progress.
The World Chess Championship Match is in crisis and things are happening fast. FIDE President Ilyumzhinov has cut short a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin and is on his way to Elista. In the meantime, Kramnik's team has sent another open letter to Ilyumzhinov agreeing to play Game 5 if conditions--including a written letter of apology from Topalov's team and toilets connected to the rest areas--are satisfied. In addition, Grandmaster Yasser Seirawan, world-class player, organizer and broker, contributes his propsal to break the impasse.

Veselin Topalov's manager Silvio Danailov has written a letter to the World Chess Championship Match Organizing and Appeals Committees stating if certain conditions are not met regarding Kramnik's overuse of the restroom, the only place without video surveillance, the Topalov team will "seriously reconsider the participation of the World Champion Veselin Topalov in this match."
