ChessMaine.net Championship *Reminder*

The ChessMaine.net Championship will take place on the beautiful campus of Colby College in Waterville on Saturday, June 30th. This three-section, four-round tournament has a prize fund of $1,100 based on 45 entries. A free continental breakfast is included. Haley DeLuca Lowell to Represent Maine at the Polgar National Invitational Tournament

John Bapst Memorial High School Freshman Haley DeLuca Lowell has been selected to represent Maine at the Susan Polgar National Invitational Tournament for Girls to take place at Webster University in St. Louis, Missouri from July 21-27, 2012. Each state chess association is asked to send one representative to the tournament to compete on the national stage. Please consider a gift of any amount to help support Haley's participation in this tournament. Anand Retains World Championship Title!

After twelve games with classical time control ended in a 6-6 tie between World Champion Viswanathan Anand and challenger Boris Gelfand the match moved on to the tiebreak phase and four games played at the rapid time control of just 25 minutes for each player and a 10 second increment added after each move. Game 2, the only decisive game of the tiebreak, was won by Anand playing the white pieces. With that win and the following two draws Anand was able to hold onto the title by the slimmest of margins. Such is world championship level chess these days--top players are separated by nearly imperceptible differences.
