Roger Peterson Wins First Houlton Invitational Tournament

On May 28th, 2011, eight players gathered in Houlton, Maine to participate in the First Houlton Invitational Tournament open to players rated over USCF 1600. Roger Peterson of Calais won the event with 3.5 points in four games. Here's the tournament report with USCF crosstable.

ChessMaine.net Championship *Reminder--this Sunday!*

The 5th Annual ChessMaine.net Championship will take place this Sunday, June 19th at Colby College in Waterville, Maine. This year's event features three sections and includes a generous guaranteed prize fund of $1,100: Open 1st $325, Open 2nd $225, U1550 1st $175, U1550 2nd $125, U1250 1st $150, U1250 2nd $100. Considering the prize fund, outstanding playing conditions, free continental breakfast and on-campus dining this event has become one of Maine's premier chess events of the year! Proposed IM David Vigorito Lecture/Simul

ChessMaine.net along with the Maine Chess Association and the Portland Chess Club is planning an evening with International Master David Vigorito and we need your help. IM Vigorito is tentatively scheduled to give a lecture and simul at the Downeast Open at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 9th at Southern Maine Community College in Sourh Portland. In order to confirm IM Vigorito we need to hear from you. The cost of either the lecture or the simul is $15 or $25 for both.
