Three intrepid players competed in the Houlton June Open played at the Art Studio in Houlton on Saturday, June 29th. Roger Morin topped the crosstable with an unbeaten and untied 3.0 points. Roger Hardison put up 1.5 points for second and Ray Haines managed one draw for third place.

A chess piece from the oldest-known chess set on Earth was found in Scotland after being kept in a drawer for fifty-five years. The piece, known as the Lewis Warder, is scheduled to be put up for auction and is expected to fetch upwards of $1 million. In our Scotland Travelogue, we highlighted some of the history and folklore surrounding the Isle of Lewis chess pieces currently being housed at the National Museum of Scotland.
