WCCF April Swiss Tournament Report
05.04.07 Roger Morin USCF 2020 and Roger Peterson USCF 1828 were seeded at the top of the ten player field in the Open Section of the Washington County Chess Federation April Swiss played in Pembroke on April 14, 2007. Final standings put Roger Morin in first with 4 points, Lily Ann Briggs in second with 3 points, and Hoty Briggs in third with 2.5 points. Here is an illustrated tournament report including USCF crosstables.

Thanks to Alba Briggs for contributing to this report.
Class A player and coach of the Woodland High School Chess Team, Roger Peterson allowed aggressive play from lower rated players to hold him to 2 points. In the K-8 Scholastic Section, played within the Open, Ezra Briggs came out first, followed by Haley Deluca Lowell in second, and Anna Bryan in third.
The tournament was graced with the presence of a dynamic group of 10 novice players, mostly protégés of Isaac Marnik, past State High School Champion and present EdGE Program director (an after school program with an emphasis on chess). His group hails from the Southern District of Aroostook County: Scott Bragg, Thomas Brooks, and Chelsea Libby from Addison; Meagan Jacques (an interested student and observer), Alex Sargent, and Jeremy Sweeney from Cherryfield; Rhyne King from Harrington; Chris Burke and Lucas Olsen from Milbridge; and Patrick Orcutt from Steuben. The group was rounded out with the eventual winner of the Novice Section Robert Harvey, who homeschools in Dennysville. Overall standings for the section were: Robert Harvey first with 5 points, Alex Sargent second with 3.5 points, and Chelsi Libby third with 3 points (four draws and a win!) One-year USCF memberships were awarded to the three class winners: Robert Harvey in K-12, Thomas Brooks in K-8, and Alex Sargent in K-6. We hope to see these and more young players at future tournaments.
