National Elementary School Championship, Everyone's A Winner!

05.14.06 Seven thousand handshakes later, the 2006 National Elementary School Championship is over. The kids played their hearts out and there were many thrills and some disappointments. Here are the results from Maine's view of the world.

Maine fielded two teams in this year's championship. Deer Isle-Stonington Elementary competed in the K-6 Under 1000 section and the Airline Community School in the K-3 Under 800 section.

Deer Isle-Stonington placed 13th out of thirty-eight teams with 15.5 points. The top point getters from the Deer Isle-Stonington team were as follows:

Sam Grindle 3.5

Unfortunately for the Airline School, their four-player team was divided into three sections (K-3 Under 800, K-3 Unrated and K-1 Championship) by the tournament directors. With only two of a possible four students' scores tallying for the Airline, the team placed 50th out of 59 teams.

The top scorer from Maine was Matthew Fishbein of Cape Elizabeth with 5 points. Matthew placed 23rd out of 307 players in the K-3 Under 800 section.
