1. d4 d5 2. c4 c6 3. Nf3 Nf6 4. Nc3 e6 5. Bf4 This line is really weird. It's not even considered a sideline by my Slav book or MCO and nobody over 2400 has played it in chessbase, but it doesn't seem horrible. 5... dxc4 6. e3 b5 7. a4 Bb4 8. Bxb8 Rxb8 9. axb5 cxb5 10. Rxa7 Qb6 11. Ra1 Bb7 12. Be2 Ne4? The idea is not good. I can't put enough pressure on the knight to win material, and now I'll either have to waste time moving the knight back or capture into an inferior pawnstructure 13. Qc2 O-O 14. O-O Nxc3 15. bxc3 And I dislike my weak b pawn 15... Be7 16. Rfb1 Qc6 17. Ne1! Clearing f3 for the Bishop 17... Ra8 18. Bf3 Qb6 19. Qb2 Rxa1 20. Rxa1 b4 I think trying to create a passed pawn gives me a good chance to fight for the initiative 21. Be2 Rc8 22. cxb4 Be4 White was getting into time pressure at this point, so I attempted to complicate the position. THe pawn sacrifice makes perfect sense though, controlling the squares in front of the passed pawn is essential 23. f3 c3 I think Bf5 is better. c3 can't be blockaded so there's no rush to push the pawn closer to danger prematurely 24. Qc1 Bf5 25. b5 Bg5? A purely practical move. My opponent was in severe time trouble, so I thought a sacrifice to complicate things made sense. However, it was a lazy approach, and I should respect the nature of the position. Lines need to be opened, so 25...e5! makes sense. 25... e5 26. dxe5 Bg5 And if he doesn't win the pawn back he at least gets plenty of activity for compensation and more opportunities to advance the c pawn 26. f4 Bxf4 27. exf4 Qxd4+ 28. Kh1? 28.Kf1 stopped back rank threats and protected the Bishop 28... c2 29. Nxc2 Bxc2 30. Ra2 Qc3 31. b6 Be4 32. Qg1 Qb3 33. Ra7 Qd5 34. h3 g6 35. b7 Rb8 36. Ba6 Qb3 White lost on time, but the b7 pawn falls either way and Black should have a winning endgame. However, I don't approve of my decision to let my opponent's time trouble influence me into making an inferior move, and I will not be playing like that again 0-1
