1. d4 d5 2. c4 c6 3. Nf3 Nf6 4. Nc3 e6 5. e3 Nbd7 6. Qc2 Bd6 7. g4 I new ahead of time that he played d4, but I had no idea he played this. I knew very little about it so I was slightly shaken when he blitzed this out 7... Nxg4 8. Rg1 f5 9. h3 Ngf6 10. Rxg7 Nf8 11. Rg2 I was threatening to trap the Rook with Ng6, but I think 11.Rg1 is better because he never manages to get play down the g file 11... Ng6 12. Bd2 Qe7 13. Be2 Bd7 Playing ...b6 is a more natural way to develop the Bishop. At this point my best bet for seeking counterplay on the queenside, but I'd need to open up lines, which is dangerous because I probably need to castle there 14. O-O-O dxc4 I think 14.. .Ne4 was better. The possibility of taking the pawn wasn't going anywhere, and I could have improved my position before commiting to opening up the center 15. e4?? This sacrifice is a positional blunder. White offers a pawn, the two Bishops, some freedom in my cramped position, and queenside light square domination to get a little more space and maybe open thingsup 15... Nf4 16. Bxf4 Bxf4+ 17. Kb1 b5 18. exf5 I can probably just recapture the pawn, but his structure is really weak and my pieces are more active now, so I preferred to get my king out of the cent and be safe 18... O-O-O 19. Ne5 19. fxe6 Bxe6 WHite has several weak pawns, Black has 2 Bishops in an open position, and more space and piece activity 19... exf5 20. Nxd7 Qxd7 21. d5?? I really don't understand why he gave me this pawn 21... Nxd5 22. Bf3 Nxc3+ 23. bxc3 Qe6 24. Rgg1 Qf6? 24... Kb8 25. Bxc6 Now my King's on a dark square so he has fewer tactical opportunities with his Queen and Bishop, and it save me a pawn 25... Kc7?? White outcalculated me. I thought b5 was poisoned, but I missed his line. Maybe just 15...a6 and my extra pawn may still be enough to win 26. Bxb5! Rxd1+ 27. Rxd1 Rb8 28. Qa4 For some reason , when I calculated this I forgot the c pawn was hanging so I though Qb6 just won for me. Sadly it is not so 28... Qc6 29. Qxa7+ Rb7 30. Qxb7+ Qxb7 31. Rd7+ Kb6 32. Rxb7+ Kxb7 33. Bxc4 I've been studying this endgame, and I'm pretty sure I'm lost here. If I could trade 2 pawns off I draw, but I really can't, although I tried to tempt him a few times 33... Be5 34. Kc2 f4 35. h4 Kb6 36. Kd3 Bd6 37. Ke4 Bc5 38. f3 Be3 39. Kf5 Bd2 40. Bd3 Bxc3 41. Kxf4 Kc5 42. Kg5 Bd2+ 43. Kh5 Kd5 44. Bxh7 Just because my position was winning doesn't mean I should have relaxed. The tactical oversight on move 24 gave him chances back, and apparently I really need to work on my calculation. 1-0
