Duane Mercier Obituary

On June 17, 2007, we had the opportunity to meet with and interview Mr. Mercier at his home in Fayette, Maine. You can read that interview here:

ChessMaine Interviews: Duane Mercier

I would drive from Auburn to Cony High in Augusta to play in his 30-30 tournaments once a month in the late '70s. All his students became good players with Paul Wlodkowski surpassing all. I only played him once and he won rather easily. He had a positive influence on everyone he touched. Good bye friend.

Truly a great all around guy. I learned a lot from him as a club member at the Wilton Chess club back in the day and always played in his 30/30 events. He will be missed and fondly remembered.
