On July 26, 2009 Curt Brock did what many class players can only dream of. He went toe-to-toe with a grandmaster and proved himself equal to the task. Down a pawn with insufficient material to win the game mighty GM Perelshteyn offered Brock the draw and the players shared the point. Lucas McCain got off to a strong start at the 2010 Maine State Closed Championship, played at the University of Maine at Orono on August 21-22, and never looked back. McCain, a former Yarmouth High School student and current sophomore at Washington University in St. Louis, won his first four games and agreed to a quick draw in the final round to clinch the title. |

Eight players competed in the 4th Annual Houlton Open played on August 7th at the Roger Morin Art Studio in Houlton, Maine. Morin took top honors scoring 3.5 points in four rounds. |

International Master Ken Regan recently visited friends in Cape Elizabeth from his home in Buffalo, NY. While in town on July 24th, he graciously agreed to meet some of the kids from the Cape Elizabeth chess program at The Local Buzz, a new coffee shop in town. |
