A Featured Game from the Seacoast Open

Former president of the Maine Chess Association Phil Lowell shared first place with Andrey Savov in the U1900 Section of the Seacoast Open played in Portsmouth, New Hampshire on June 5, 2010. In his first round game, Lowell (1884) pulled off a nice victory vs. up-and-coming Matthew Reale-Hatem (1588) of Cape Elizabeth.

Lance Beloungie Wins 3rd Houlton Open

Being seeded sixth in a field of eight players didn't stop Lance Beloungie from essaying a winning performance and topping the crosstable with 3.5 points in four rounds at the 3rd Houlton Open played in Houlton, Maine on June 12, 2010.

DIS Chess Players Visit State House and Meet Governor Baldacci

Wesley Parker Cracks USCF Top 100 List

June 5, 2010

Wesley Parker of Cape Elizabeth has been recognized as one of the top eleven-year-old chess players in the nation. On the USCF June 2010 Top Player List, Parker (USCF 1577) is listed in 94th place. This is an outstanding accomplishment particularly when considering the top eleven-year-old player in the United States has a near-master rating of USCF 2190. Congratulations Wesley!

Maine Affiliate Leads USCF Membership Appreciation Program

The Maine Association of Chess Coaches (the organization that hosts the annual Maine State Scholastic Chess Championships) leads the USCF Membership Appreciation Program's Small State Affiliate Standings with 152 new and renewing USCF memberships thus far in 2010. On the same list, the Airline Community School in Aurora is currently in sixth place having secured 24 new and renewing USCF memberships.
