USA Chess Camps comes to Maine

05.24.07 Making plans for this summer? There's a new option to consider: USA Chess Camps, the nation's No. 1 organizer of summer scholastic chess camps, has decided to come to Maine for the first time. They will be holding a camp in Cape Elizabeth at the Cape Elizabeth Community Center from August 6 - 10, 2007.

USA Chess provides chess activities for children in more than 100 US cities. Activities include a national summer chess camp tour, scholastic tournaments, school chess programs and private/group lessons.

This is the largest chess camp in the US with thousands of past campers and certified chess instructors. USA Chess Camps hold one week camps at many locations across the country over the summer. They generally divide into two groups - beginners and intermediate/advanced. They welcome campers age 5 through 16. A number of people have already signed up, but more spots are available, and more campers are needed to make this a success. The camp is $245 for the week for the half day camp (either 9:00 to 12:00 or 1:00 to 4:00) or $390 for the week for the all day camp. USA Chess Camps primarily offer the camps at private schools, with Cape Elizabeth being one of the only exceptions. The camp is open to all children age 5 to 16 regardless of residency.

Sign-up is now open via Cape Elizabeth Community Services (207) 799-2868.
