Portland Chess Club Back Online

Thanks to Lee Doucetter for contributing to this report.

05.23.06 New meeting time and location for the Portland Chess Club.

Beginning Friday, June 2, the Osher Life-long Learning Institute (OLLI) Chess Club (unofficially known as the Portland Chess Club) will begin weekly meetings in Room 43 in the basement of Payson Smith Hall on the Portland campus of the University of Southern Maine. The room is available for play from 6:00 p.m. until 11:00 p.m. when the building closes.

Payson Smith Hall is located on Falmouth Street across from the USM Law School/Muskie Institute at the intersection of Brighton Avenue (Rt 25), Deering Avenue, and Falmouth Street. Falmouth Street is also accessible from Forest Avenue by turning toward the USM campus at the Oakhurst dairy plant. There is a small parking lot at the end of the building, as well as on street parking. The main entrance is on Falmouth Street, and a convenient side entrance from the parking lot leads directly to the basement hallway connecting to the playing room. Please bring boards and sets if you have them.

We're counting on a good turnout to gain momentum for a strong club with expanded chess activities in Portland.

!!! A special thanks to Jon Malev for his efforts and connections in making this location available for our use !!!
